Poppies for the fallen

The Poppy Memorial is unveiled at the National Mall in Washington DC.

A new memorial is unveiled at the National Mall in Washington DC to honor the 645,000 men and women who lost their lives defending American freedom since World War One. The Poppy Memorial is a 133-foot-long display that sits beside the Lincoln Memorial Reflection Pond and is filled with red poppies, the flower that's become a symbol for lives lost in service. We spoke with USAA's vice-president of military affairs Eric Engquist for more details, and he explains that even if you can’t make the trip to Washington DC, you can still take a virtual tour online and even dedicate your own poppy in the memorial. The Poppy Memorial is open today through Sunday, May 27, 2018.
