A little over a year ago, a local couple got the news that their son Sam had end-stage kidney disease. Sam is now 8 years old and has been dependent on nightly dialysis for more than a year. He needs a kidney transplant, but as a child, the transplant process is different, which means he needs a living donor who will be a match. Sam’s parents, Tara and Kenyon Kauffman, are not a match for Sam, so they're reaching out to family, friends and the community to find a donor. Sam needs a donor who is O blood type, aged 18-55, with a body mass under 35. If you want to learn more about helping Sam, or determining your blood type to see if you are a match, you can call the living donor coordinator, Marty Hudson, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital at 513-636-6794. If you want to know more about Louisville's Mulligans Living Kidney Donors group, call LeighAnn Saylor at 502-544-2334.
