Matt Rudkin joined the WHAS11 First Alert Storm Team in Summer 2021.

Matt is no stranger to the Midwest & Ohio Valley weather patterns. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in atmospheric science/physics, and was the Chief Meteorologist at WSBT-TV in South Bend, IN for over a decade.

Before that, he worked at WSIL-TV, serving much of Western Kentucky. He left full-time TV Meteorology in 2021 to pursue his passion in aviation and now works at United Airlines, helping determine which of United’s thousands of aircraft go to what airports each day. Fun fact – he oversees United Airlines' flight schedule for Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport!

While Matt’s full-time job is within the aviation industry, he continues being very active in the meteorology world.

A few years ago, he started his own digital/online weather business and has over 150,000 followers on social media. He even developed his own weather app! He also hosts weekly science education segment that is used by dozens of teachers in the community on his social media platforms.

Matt holds the American Meteorological Society “Certified Broadcast Meteorologist” seal of approval, which is the highest distinction given to a broadcast meteorologist. You’ll see Matt filling-in from time-to-time on WHAS11 during the afternoons and evenings.

You can find Matt on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, or by searching his name in the App Store & Google Play.
