WHAS11 is woven into the very fabric of Louisville and Kentuckiana, dating all the way back to our first broadcast in March of 1950. The station was a trailblazer, being the area’s first to use newsreel film and the first to bring the nation a television broadcast the iconic Kentucky Derby.

WHAS Crusade for Children

In 1954, the WHAS Crusade for Children began a yearly tradition of raising money to help the area’s remarkable children. Over the course of its rich history, the nationally-recognized foundation has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for special needs children throughout Kentuckiana. The WHAS Crusade for Children, Inc. established in 1954 by WHAS-TV, raises money for agencies, schools and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children.
