Saffir - Simpson Scale = Hurricane categories with wind speeds
Hurricane Irene could become a major Category 3 hurricane with winds speeds higher than 110 mph tomorrow as the storms moves over the Bahamas. Irene then tracks north, thankfully well off the East Coast of Florida. The current forecast path for the major hurricane makes a direct hit along North Carolina's coast Saturday. Then, the storm travels up the Eastern Seaboard Sunday into Monday.
