PERU, Ind. (AP) -- Dozens of school districts across northern and central Indiana delayed the start of classes after an early winter storm dumped as much as 10 inches of snow in some spots.

The National Weather Service reports the snowfall largely ended late Tuesday, leaving the deepest accumulations of 5 inches or more in a stretch from around Kokomo to the Warsaw area and causing scattered power outages.

The 10 inches that fell around Peru snarled travel on U.S. 31 in the area about midway between South Bend and Indianapolis.

The snowfall totals fell off outside that section of the state. About 4 inches was reported in Fort Wayne, where a jackknifed semitrailer closed a section of Interstate 469 early Wednesday.
