(WHAS11) -- It's been two months since the April hail storm and chances are you or your neighbors may still be waiting for that new roof.

For people in the Fern Creek subdivision, the wait continues.

For Jose and his co-workers at the Dura Group, the work has been non-stop and the weather unbearable. They started roof work Thursday on one of the Fern Creek homes.

Dan Isenberg, who is using a different roofing company, is still waiting just down the street.

"Our roofer said there were 200,000 people with potential damage and then there is not that many roofers to go around," said Dan Isenberg, a Fern Creek Resident.

So, why is it taking so long?

First you must take into consideration the number of people affected,  the time it takes for estimates, mortgage companies,  and the wait on roofing shingles.

Gregg Sims with the Dura Group said just when they start to catch up they get more calls.

"You are just in this line where some people have severe storm damage, others have not much. And general hail is not gonna create a leak so people are just gonna have to be patient, " says Sims.

With the heat, workers are having to alter their hours. What normally would take a day, now takes two and a half in the heat wave.

"I don't give them any schedule. If they don't feel like working four hours a day, you know it's too dangerous," said Sims.
