LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Three LMPD officers are recovering after they crashed their police cars while responding to a deadly shooting that happened on Duncan Street in the Portland neighborhood.
One woman is dead after a shooting on Duncan Street. But, it's what happened to three officers on their way to the scene that's unusual.
With an icy rain falling over this intersection in the Portland neighborhood crews began launching two investigations, the most serious...a fatal shooting.
The incident at this house on the 2600 block of Duncan Street had police officers racing down the road.
"As officers did arrive to the location where the homicide occurred, they did discover the body of a black female," Alicia Smiley with LMPD said.
There are very few details about how the woman ended up dead. Police say she was shot at least once and her body was found at the rear of the house.
"At this time, we're very uncertain on the age, in fact, we don't even have an identification," Smiley said.
Police took three people downtown for questioning.
The second investigation involved those officers speeding to the home.
Police are navigating the wreckage of three vehicles two of them their own police cars.
"As officers were arriving on the scene actually first division officers. One in an unmarked unit, the other in a marked unit, unfortunately they collided here at the intersection while attempting to respond to that homicide," Smiley said.
Three officers were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Another car was involved, but no one in that vehicle was injured.
Police aren't calling any of the three people they brought in for questioning suspects at this point.
