LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An accident at Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane has left one person dead.
Police say a woman driving a van ran a red light and was hit by gold Toyota Camry. The woman in the van was thrown from it and her van then rolled on top of her.
We spoke to a friend of the victim’s who had been with her just minutes before the crash, watched it happen, and rushed to try to save her.
“I’m coming down Cane Run after I took that right,” the friend, Mark Williams, said. “I’m looking through my rearview mirror and I see the car hit her and the van tip over and flip on top of her…we had just left the dollar store together. We had just got done talking two seconds before that. It’s just blowing my mind.”
Williams and several other men rushed to help the woman.
“I did a U-turn and come back because I know the lady, I come back and we got the van off of her,” Williams said.
He said it took about eight men.
People who live around the intersection said they see wrecks like this all the time.
“Most of the time, it’s somebody running a light is what it is. Like I said, they’re all screwed up,” explained Nancy Reeser. “We’ve had motorcycle wrecks out here, car wrecks, vans, trucks, semis, oh my gosh, all kinds of cars.”
After helping to free his friend and watching her leave in an ambulance, Williams got a devastating phone call.
“She was a very sweet lady and I just found out from her sister that she passed away and I’m very upset right now.”
LMPD says they do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.
