CLARKSVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – Clarksville police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for killing a Clarksville teenager.

17-year-old Tara Willenberg was found dead early Saturday morning in the Cambridge Square apartment she shared with her boyfriend.

According to police, her boyfriend discovered her body on the floor of their bedroom when he returned home from work.

49 year-old Richard Hooten has been charged with her murder.

Residents who live in Cambridge Square Complex say they are stunned.

“As a parent I just couldn’t imagine losing my child; especially someone in high school. It’s terrible,” Lauren Devary said.

Police say there were no signs of forced entry and believe Willenberg knew Hotten.

“They were just having an acquaintance. They had just met, “said Major Darrell Rayborn.

Police arrested Hooten within a mile where Willenberg lived and within hours of her body being found after neighbors tipped them off saying they’d seen Hooten hanging around the complex.

Hooten is currently booked in the Clark County Jail. Police have not released the cause of death.
