NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WHAS11) -- The Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. was forced to evacuate after there was an explosion Tuesday night.
Emergency crews were called to the scene around 8:30 and Homeland Security was alerted.
Jefferson County Sheriff John Aubrey was there attending the National Sheriff's Association Annual Conference. He is to be elected the second vice president of the association. About 5,000 sheriffs were present from across the country.
Nashville firefighters say some people smelled natural gas in the area. Early reports indicate there was a mechanical explosion behind an elevator in the hotel.
Damage is estimated to be around 750,000 dollars and is the size of a football field on an upper floor.
There are no reports of any injuries.
