LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) -- A man was found shot to death in Louisville’s West End after a shooting around 1 a.m. in the 2200 block of Kentucky St.
“They arrived on scene to find a white male who had been shot at least one time. He was transported to University Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” said Alicia Smiley, LMPD Spokesperson.
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Donald Giles of Brandenburg, Ky. Police believe the shooting may have happened inside a car. Homicide detectives spent the night gathering information and knocking on neighbor’s doors.
“Only thing I heard was the shots. You know, I didn’t see anything. He wanted to know if I saw anything,” said resident, Ovalinn Pennick.
As violence continues, frustrations are growing in the neighborhood.
“Oh yeah, you know, they might hit me,” said resident Harold Langley.
“If you don't put money down here the violence is going to stay high. We gotta educate our people,” said Maurice Beckley.
The shooting happened right in front of Victory Park, but it doesn’t hold happy memories for some kids in the area.
“They built this park for kids to play in and stuff and throw frisbee and all that kind of fun stuff, but now it’s all violence over here,” said Trenton Davis.
According to police, Giles has been arrested before. In 2003, police say he killed a man during a home invasion in Fairdale and in 2006 he was accused of robbing a bank.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call police at their anonymous tip line 574-LMPD.
