SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Family members of a teenager shot and killed by police in Shelbyville in 2011 have now filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city, the police department, the police chief and two officers involved.
Trey Williams, 18, was shot and killed November 2011 inside his grandmother's home.
Police say they received a call of a man acting strangely and trying to break into the home with a pipe.
When they confronted Williams, police say he became combative. Officers tried tasing him, but say they were forced to shoot.
In the lawsuit, Williams’ family says he sometimes lived at his grandmother’s home, he was locked out that day, and police didn't have a reason to shoot him.
The Shelbyville Police Department had no comment on the lawsuit.
