LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Louisville truck driver is arrested in Ohio on charges that he kidnapped teenage girls.
Federal authorities are now investigating if the suspect may have also forced the girls to perform sex acts against their will.
It all started when a distraught teenager girl was found at a rest stop in Ohio, claiming she was kidnapped and sexually abused.
A short time later, authorities arrested the truck driver they say was responsible and rescued another teenage girl.
But a relative of the suspect tells us the girls are making it all up.
It all started at a rest area in Northwestern Ohio Saturday afternoon.
A distraught 17-year-old girl approached the rest stop caretaker, reporting she had been abducted and held against her will for several days by a truck driver.
The girl also reported the man still had a second girl in his truck.
An hour-and-a-half later, 81 miles down I-75, troopers pulled over the truck the girl described, located a missing 16-year-old girl and took 30-year-old Darien McKinley into custody on kidnapping charges.
“At least one of these girls was with him for a period of time and did not want to be with him. She was being held against her will,” FBI Special Agent David Dustin said.
Authorities say both girls were from the Louisville area.
A probable cause statement indicates one victim had been entered into the National Crime Information Computer as a missing person shortly before she was found Saturday.
The FBI became involved as new details emerged.
“There was some forced sexual activity with third parties, which is kind of what got us involved in this and possibly there could be human trafficking involved,” Dustin said.
We went to McLinley's home in south Louisville Tuesday, where we talked to a woman who wouldn't tell us her name, but said she was a relative.
“The allegation is false. It will be proven in court. He has witnesses. He has evidence,” she said.
The woman says the girls voluntarily left with McKinley, who she said met him through acquaintances.
The woman says the girls wanted a ride to Detroit, where McKinley was hauling freight for a transportation company.
“They told him they was 19 and 23,” McKinley’s relative said. “It was never like he knew they were underage. They were going up there to have fun in Detroit.”
“These are victims. Sometimes they leave of their own will, but at some point, they don't want to be with the person and they're continually abused by these individuals,” Agent Dustin said.
The probable cause statement filed in Bowling Green Municipal Court released just a short time ago indicates that the victim says McKinley threatened to beat her if she didn't have sex with other people.
Mckinley is being held in Ohio tonight under an $85,000 cash bond.
If he posts that, he is ordered not to have any contact with either of the girls.
