LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – There’s a new program called Filet a Fridge and it’s meant to save you money.

On Tuesday morning, Duke Energy took apart an old refrigerator to demonstrate its new recycling program.

Older refrigerators can consume as much as three times more energy than newer models.

Duke Energy does all the heavy lifting picking up your old fridge and taking them to a facility for recycling.

"We recycle up to 95 percent of these refrigerators. When they come into our facility, we're going to remove all the hazardous components and all of the metals, plastics, glass and so forth will be separated and sent back into the manufacturing stream," Justin Rainer, with JACO Enviromental, said.

Rainer says you can save up to $150 in energy and also get a $30 incentive for participating.

For more information about the program call this number 1-855-398-6200.
