(WHAS11) -- Families and child care workers say a statewide crisis awaits Kentucky once deep cuts to child care services are put into place in April.

Advocates filled the room at a meeting for the health and welfare committee in Frankfort pleading for help. They are concerned the move will hurt families and the entire economy.

The Dept of Community Based Services announced the cuts to make up for an $86 million shortfall.

A family of four making $33,000 a year is eligible for assistance however in April. The new threshold will be $22,000.

The move will affect about 14,000 children each month. Parents say for them it will mean losing child care or losing their jobs. Some child care workers say it could put them out of business all together.
