LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) --Neighbors said an elderly couple found dead in a Highlands home Tuesday morning had lived in the neighborhood for years. The victims have been identified as Mary Cronin, 77 and Kenneth Cronin, 82.

Many are at a loss for words as police investigate what they said they believe is a murder-suicide.

"Just the family members coming by to check on them due to their age and medical conditions and unfortunately this is what they found," Carey Klain with Louisville Metro Police said.

Family called 911 after finding two bodies in a home at the 1600 block of Stevens Avenue around 10 a.m. The victims, a man in his early 80s and woman in her late 70s.

Neighbors said the bodies are that of a married couple. Joyce Daunhauer said her brother-in-law worked as an electrician and helped the couple.

"The elderly guy across the street, he would just laugh because her dog would sound so ferocious, but her dog was really nice and he'd bring his poodle over and thought it was so nice because they got along," Daunhauer said.

Family members did not want to talk on camera, still stunned by the news.

Police have not said who was the shooter or released the motive behind the shootings.

"It's a very quiet peaceful neighborhood with elderly and again it's a horrible tragedy," Klain said.
