(WHAS11) – On Wednesday Congress heard testimony about the recent meningitis outbreak that killed 32 people and sickened 440 others.

Lawmakers are looking at how the outbreak could have been prevented. But the owner and director of the pharmacy involved declined to testify.

Congress did hear from family members of the victims, including the widow of a longtime southern Kentucky judge, who died after receiving tainted steroid injections.

Joyce Lovelace asked representatives to find out how the distribution of the tainted product became so widespread.
