(WHAS11) - A Western Kentucky University student is dead after a shoot-out Wednesday with police in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Jonathan Skinner, a junior majoring in meteorology, died after sustaining gunshot wounds.

Gallatin police say that Skinner and David Christopher Cotton, 20, were suspects in a bank robbery at the First State Bank in Gallatin.

Police say Cotton entered the bank wearing a leprechaun outfit, and carrying a large-caliber weapon.

After stealing an undisclosed amount of money, Cotton joined Skinner in the getaway vehicle.

Dashcam video released by police shows Cotton leaning out of the getaway car and firing shots at police.

After a chase with police, Cotton and Skinner ran into a field and exchanged more fire with officers.  Police say Skinner was killed and Cotton committed suicide.

"It was a very tense and dangerous situation," said Lt. Kate Novitsky, of the Gallatin Police Department.  "Thankfully, none of the officers was injured and no one with the general public was injured either."

The FBI says Cotton was also linked to a December robbery at a SunTrust Bank in Nashville, in which police say he dressed up as Santa.
