NEW YORK (WHAS11) -- A utility worker from Florida who went to New York to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy said he was beaten up by someone upset over the lingering power outages.
John Applewhite said he had just finished a 13 hour shift restoring power and was headed to dinner when he was attacked. He suffered a broken jaw, cuts and a black eye.
Police are reviewing surveillance video from the surrounding businesses to try and track down the attacker.
Applewhite said he understands people are on edge, but it's no excuse for violence.
