LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- More JCPS students are getting a big boost to help prepare for college. The University of Louisville has participated in the upward bound program for 35 years.
The program is for high school students who are either low-income or are first generation families, meaning their parents do not have a college degree.
Students take college-level classes during the summer at UofL. Thanks to more than $3 million in federal grants the program will continue for another five years.
Since the upward bound program began in 1966 it has helped more than 3,500 high school students in our community.
