LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- After nearly 12 hours a stand-off in Shively ended with the suspect man dead.
The stand-off started around 4:30pm on Friday as many residents returned home from work.
“Next thing I knew there was a cop coming to the end of my porch tapping, ‘Ma’am go inside.’ It scared the daylights out of me,” Betty McAnney said.
Paul Allen lives a few doors down from where the stand-off took place. He describes the scene as chaotic.
“We seen them shooting in the house. We seen them doing the smoke bombs and tear gas. It was crazy until about 4 in the morning.”
Police said the man inside was a suspect in a homicide investigation. Police had been looking to talk to Jerry Ross, the husband of Gloria Ross. The 48-year-old mother was shot multiple times and found in her backyard on Thursday.
Jerry Ross’ sister, Wendy Banks, was on the stand-off scene. Banks was in communication with police and told WHAS11 it was her brother inside the home.
She was hoping to help convince him to surrender peacefully, especially after the Gloria’s murder. “I’m missing her right now, it’s all so unreal now,” Banks said.
Ross' sister said the last time she saw the couple was on Mother's Day and everything had seemed fine. However, other people who knew the couple said they were having marital issues
According to police, the suspect was friends with the homeowner. Police said the homeowner was the person who called 911.
After negotiations failed police went inside the home on the 2900 block of Dixie Highway, which is about a mile from where Gloria Ross was murdered.
Police discovered the suspect inside was dead. The cause of death has not been released. Police say the suspect was armed.
