LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – The man who is loading up the horses by the trailer-load for the Kentucky Derby arrived at Churchill Downs on Wednesday.
Todd Pletcher is definitely the trainer with the buzz right now. If he enters his filly, he could have a total of seven horses out of the starting gate on Derby day.
WHAS11’s Danielle Santoro has more on what Pletcher said today, and the potential of the filly in the race.
On Tuesday afternoon, Todd Pletcher's fleet of horses arrived at Churchill Downs. Seven of those horses are potential Derby entries.
Pletcher was quick to say, however, that just because the horses are in Louisville, it doesn't guarantee that all seven of them will have a spot in the Run for the Roses.
Pletcher said that's an honor they still have to earn.
“Right now, we’re preparing everybody as though they might run,” he told WHAS11 News, “but really some of these horses are going to have to have some really key workouts here this weekend; to not necessarily to earn their way in, they got their earnings, but for me to think they deserve to run.”
Todd Pletcher is 0 for 24 all-time in the Derby.
However, this year he has the early Derby favorite , Eskendraya. The colt is the number 1 pick in the Associated Press' final list of Derby prospects..
Pletcher is still fully aware, come Derby day, that nothing is promised.
