Hey, it’s the buzz - It’s what people are talking about Feb. 13.
The music community, along with the rest of the world, is still reeling after hearing about the death of singer Whitney Houston, but as the saying holds “the show must go on” and the 54th Annual Grammy Awards were Sunday night. Bruce Springsteen set a lively tone, but on this night for celebrating the best in music, there were heavy hearts. Host LL Cool J began the evening with a prayer for Houston and then played a clip of her unforgettable Grammy performance. Later in the evening, Jennifer Hudson performed the same song in a tribute to the singer who died Saturday.
While Houston was on the minds of many, the awards show went on as planned. Adele picked up the first prize of the night. She made several more trips to the stage, including one to collect the trophy for record of the year and another for album of the year Adele also performed for the first time since undergoing vocal surgery last year.
Among the night's other big winners- Lady Antebellum won best country album. Chris Brown took home the prize for best in R&B and Bon Iver was named best new artist. The Foo Fighters picked up five awards, including best rock performance.
The awards and performances reign supreme at the Grammy’s, but the fashion was not far behind. You never know what you’re going to see on the red carpet. Rapper/singer Nicky Minaj is taking the heat for a bizarre performance last night, but was her outfit red hot or not? She channeled little red riding hood in a crimson cape. And you can always expect the unexpected from Lady Gaga. Last year she showed up in an egg, this year it was a face covering veil and a gold knob cane. Singer Katy Perry had a case of the blues - literally. Hopefully her red carpet look wasn’t indicative of her emotional state due to her divorce. Many critics are calling the look—matronly. And country sweetheart Taylor Swift went for a different look than her usual loose curly waves and simple shiny frocks. She wowed in a nude high necked gown and slick updo.
