NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WHAS11)-- It was something out of Medieval times.  Two thieves, after using pepper-spray to rob an unsuspecting couple of a purse, took off on foot, only to be chased down and confronted by a swordsman ready to battle.

“I charged towards them,” said Franco Scaramuzza, a fencing instructor who had just left practice when he pulled into a Nashville shopping center and witnessed the robbery.

He said he jumped from his vehicle, in full fencing gear, grabbed his epee, or sword, from his trunk and continued to save the day.

“Holding my epee up high,” he said.  “I kept yelling throughout the entire thing.”

Scaramuzza said the thieves panicked, dropped everything and fled.

Police were able to apprehend the suspects, Michael Butt and Zachary Johnson, within minutes.

They are being held on a $50,000 bond.
