Robbery suspect who turned gun on himself during traffic stop identified

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A robbery suspect who took his life after being stopped by police late Saturday night has been identified.

The suspect has been identified as Brandon Wight, 33.

Police said around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers stopped a white pick up truck at Dundee and Strathmoor roads because they believed the driver was a man involved in the robbery of a liquor store in the 2800 block of Taylorsville Rd.

During the stop, police said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot himself. Emergency crews were called to the scene where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the man fits the description of the suspect involved in at least nine other robberies around the area.

Schreck's Baxter Liquor. - 1535 Baxter Ave. 2/3 5th div.

Marathon - 3130 Poplar Level Rd. 02/08 6th div.
Subway - 2500 Bardstown Rd. 02/09 5th div.
Our Place Liquors - 3808 Poplar Level Road 02/11  6th div

Bowman Field Liquors - 2800 Taylorsville Rd. 02/15 5th div.

This is the second time in less than two months a robber shot himself in front of officers.
