LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-- An Alabama student missed a day of school to wish his Iraq-bound father farewell, and the school isn’t excusing the absence.

The family is now upset with the district.  The boy’s mother, Angela Pierce, said she didn’t think it would be a problem.

The boy’s father is a military contractor in Iraq and the family had just two days to prepare for his departure.

The school’s principal told Pierce the school is trying to be more consistent with the attendance policy.
