LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Brian Bailey got on Facebook and decided he wanted to pay it forward this season with the help of his friends. He belongs to the group I Am Dixie Highway. Dozens of people showed up at the Kmart on Dixie Highway on Wednesday night to donate hundreds of dollars to a family of their choosing inside the store.

“These people are standing out in the cold bringing their cash to put into a box that is going to go to someone they've never met before. What does that tell you?,” Bailey said.

Bailey walked inside the store looking for a family that deserved to have their Christmas changed. He met the Bruce Family. Raymond works two jobs and he and his wife Sam Leah have two daughters. They, like so many, are struggling this holiday season to put gifts under the tree.

“Myself and a lot of my friends out in the parking lot would like to help you with Christmas,” Bailey said to the Bruce family.

They opened the box in the parking lot and received more than $450 dollars.

“We weren't going to get each other gifts. We were just going to get a couple things for the girls, so that they would have a nice Christmas, but we'll be able to do more than that now,” Sam Leah said.

Local businesses also donated gift cards.
