LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Louisville metro police are searching for the person or persons responsible for shooting a man to death in Old Louisville Sunday night.

“I was sitting in the living room and all of a sudden everybody in the living room heard nothing but gun shots,” Gustavo Vila, who recently moved to the neighborhood where the shooting happened, said.

Vila, who lives at First and Ormsby Streets in Old Louisville, said he heard the shots around 10:15 p.m. When police arrived they found a man shot to death outside. That man was 35-year-old Shawntta Young.

“That was my son,” Joseph Young, Shawntta’s father, said. “I’m always going to stick by him. I don’t know what he did or they did.”

Young’s father is left wondering who killed his son and so are police, and that’s left residents in this neighborhood worried.

“There's a chance he could return out here. People looking for revenge. It's just kind of scary,” Thomas Vollmer said.

Young's dad said this is the second time his son has been shot.

“After that he changed his lifestyle around and he was going to church,” Joseph Young said. “[He got shot] about two years ago.”

But this time, his son did not survive.

“It’s a terrible thing,” Joseph Young said. "But what can you say? It happened unnecessarily I think. I don’t know.”
Young has two teenage children.
Police are searching for several suspects. If you have any information you are urged to call 574-LMPD.
