LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A suspected burglar was caught on camera stealing a safe from the popular Portland Neighborhood restaurant, Annie’s Pizza.

The man, who appears to be a middle-aged black male, realizes his face is caught on camera when he goes to rear of the building, but that does not stop him from trying to get inside.

“There’s a shot where he’s in the back and he sees the camera,” Josh Charlet of Annie’s Pizza said.  “I kind of would have called it a day at that point.”

The video shows the suspect throwing a brick through the front door window as he falls backward.  The suspect then goes inside and works for 10 minutes trying to free the safe from the wall.  The robber breaks off part of the wall and gets away with the safe, but was likely surprised if he ever got it open.

“I think he got two penny rolls and some aspirin,” Charlet said.

Two rolls of pennies equals one dollar.  Annie’s Pizza repaired the front door and back area Wednesday morning.  They hope someone can identify the man responsible.

“Luckily, we installed the camera system awhile back so now we have some evidence to hopefully catch him,” Charlet said.

If you recognize the man in the video, call the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD.
