(WHAS11) -- Residents in Glenview and Indian Hills are being notified after a string of burglaries within the past several weeks have been happening in the area.

“We didn’t even know they had been here and we were sleeping right upstairs,” Sue Grafton, author of Kinsey Millhone Mysteries series, also known as the ABC series, said.

Grafton, who was born and raised in Louisville, is just one victim of the burglar. She said she went to put some pieces of silver away and noticed her set of forks, knives and miscellaneous serving pieces was missing.

“My suspicion is they're melting it down. So, they left me pieces that had elements that could not be melted down,” Grafton said.

The Indians Hills Police Chief said the thief is cutting glass and sneaking into homes through windows. It’s a method he calls rare.

“You worry about somebody being home when they try to come in and take it. We don't know what kind of people they are and what their limits are,” resident Lynda Hirsch said.

Indians Hills and Glenview police are working with LMPD to solve these cases. More information on the investigation is expected to be released soon.
