Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Who will succeed Louisville's "mayor for life" Jerry Abramson?

The race is wide open and the field is crowded.  Here are the candidates who have filed paperwork to run for mayor.  Click on the candidates' names for their respective campaign websites, where applicable:

Democrats:

Metro Council Budget Chairman Jim King officially entered the race on Monday, one of seven Democrats to file candidacy papers.
King is the founder of his own bank and CPA firm.  His contributions to his daughter Katie King's judicial race prompted scrutiny.

Businessman Tyler Allen owns a printing business and is best known as the force behind 86-64, which wants Kentucky to scrap plans to expand spaghetti junction downtown and instead focus on building an east end bridge.

David Tandy  is the immediate past Metro Council President, an attorney and the treasurer of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Greg Fischer is a venture capitalist who first ran for office in 2008, finishing second to Bruce Lunsford in the Democratic primary for U.S.  Senate.

Shannon White is the founder of Dress for Success Louisville, past president of the Young Professional Association of Louisville and finance director for Congressman John Yarmuth.

Lisa Moxley is the former Communications Director for the Barack Obama presidential campaign in Kentucky.

Burrel Charles Farnsley is the son of former mayor Charles Farnsley.

And, Connie Marshall says she's been harassed by the government and police and a victim of attacks because of a lawsuit she filed against a previous employer.

Republicans:

It appears that Republicans have their best shot at the mayor's office in decades.

Hal Heiner was elected to the Metro Council in 2002.  He's an engineer by trade and is the founder of a real estate investment firm.

Chris Thieneman is a real estate developer and builder.  The former U of L football player's criticism of the Abramson administration's dealings with the Cordish Companies gave voice to his campaign.

Jonathan Robertson is running for office for the first time.  He owns a small business in which he provides computer IT support for other small businesses.

Independent:

And independent candidate Jackie Green  is running on a "green" environmental platform.

____________

Jim King estimates the primary and general election campaigns combined will cost up to $2.5 million for his campaign alone, presuming King wins the Democratic Party nomination. Expect to see more political ads in the mayors race than ever before.
