LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- One man is dead and a woman was injured after a shooting in the 5200 block of Shepherdsville Road at the Willow Creek Apartment complex Monday.

The man was identified as 19-year-old Joshua Gordon. His cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest, according to a coroner.

The woman, police said, was shot in the face and is unable to speak.

One neighbor, who did not want to be identified, called police after she heard noise.

"I heard it go thump, thump, thump, thump and I heard her holler no, no, no and then I didn't hear no more," the neighbor said.

Police said they believe the shooting is the result of a domestic situation that escalated. They are looking for a male suspect.

Neighbors said the man police are looking for is the woman's ex-boyfriend.

Police are hoping the surviving victim will eventually be able to help them.

"The female, it does appear that she'll be OK.  She has a gunshot wound to the face and she is unable to communicate at this point so as soon as she can give us a little information we'll have a bit more,” a spokesperson with the LMPD said.

The woman is recovering at a local hospital. Neighbors said Gordon was the woman's brother.

A toddler who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting was not hurt.

Joshua Gordon’s family set up a fundraiser page to help cover expenses for his memorial service. Click here to learn how you can help.
