HARRISON CO., Ind. (WHAS11) – A police pursuit in Indiana, just west of Salem in Washington County, ended in a crash on State Road 56, according to Sgt. Jerry Goodin, with the Indiana State Police, on Monday, May 5.

The crash involved the suspect's vehicle and a Harrison County deputy's car. Two people, Ian Goebel and Steven Matlock, were in the vehicle police were chasing and one of them was wanted on several outstanding warrants. Goebel is in custody at this time.

Police said the pursuit started in Harrison County at about 11:15 a.m. and lasted about 45 minutes with speeds up to 100 MPH.

Goebel was involved in a police chase in February in Southern Indiana. During that chase he was shot by a deputy as he drove toward him and was hospitalized. Police said they were under the impression that Goebel would be in the hospital for weeks and they could not have a police presence with Goebel for that long.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department said they had asked University Hospital to let them know when Goebel was being released. The police said due patient/doctor confidentiality, University Hospital did not let the Harrison County Sheriff's Department know he was leaving the hospital. The police said they had been looking for Goebel ever since.

Matlock is in police custody at this time. A third person, Kayla Sizemore, is also in custody. Police said Sizemore helped Matlock during Monday's chase after the the oil pan ruptured in the car Goebel and Matlock were in. Sizemore then picked up Goebel and the police chase continued. Matlock was taken into custody after Goebel and Sizemore drove off.
