(WHAS11) -- A man from Louisville’s Portland neighborhood is in the hospital after both he and his girlfriend were shot while walking down 28th Street.

It happened Wednesday night.

The female victim wants to remain anonymous for safety reasons but did talk to WHAS11.

She tells us that she, her boyfriend , her 12-year-old brother and 19-year-old sister were all walking down 28th Street just before 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday when a dark colored Chevy Impala pulled in front of them.

That’s when she says four men jumped out of the car, demanded everything the group had, and started shooting. One of the bullets struck the woman’s boyfriend dangerously close to his spine. She says it was a terrifying experience.

“I was trembling. All I can think of was ‘I need help. I need help.’”

Louisville Metro Police say they are still interviewing witnesses and gathering information.

If anyone has any information that could help police, you’re asked to call 574-LMPD.
