LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- An 11-year-old boy was shot Sunday morning around 1:00 AM in Shawnee neighborhood.

According to police, the boy was outside a home in the 3500 block of Larkwood Avenue with a group of kids when one of them pulled out a gun and started playing with it. Police say the loaded gun accidently went off and hit the 11 year old in the hip.

Neighbors say a barbeque was going on at a home on Saturday and that’s why there was a group of kids outside. Parents who live nearby say the easy access this child had to a gun is disturbing,

“I don’t even allow guns in my house so I think it’s terrible that somebody got shot [by] a gun and they ain’t nothing but 12 years old. That’s terrible,” Sherry Davis said.

Police say the boy who was shot did not live at the house where the gathering took place.

The boy was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital with what appear to be non life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed at this time.
