OLDHAM CO., Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's usually quiet in Barbizon Place in Goshen but a string of unusual burglaries has the neighbors talking.

“Really non-expensive items stolen out of their car football cleats, footballs, nothing of really value has been taken,” resident Matt Ammons said.

And it's not just cars, its open garages; anywhere these thieves can get in.

“They pass up the tools, the golf bags, and the car that had the keys in it. So they're really not looking to take expensive items,” Ammons said.

It's been happening for awhile. Matt Ammons had his boat battery stolen out of his boat about two weeks. On Monday there were 16 car burglaries in one night.  This evening he went door to door with a neighbor to spread the word.

“They're jiggling handles, if the car door opens up they're going in. If the garage door opens they're going in but they're not physically breaking windows or knocking down doors,” Ammons said.
The mayor of Goshen is aware and he's spreading the word too.

“With email I can hit about 3,000 people in less than an hour,” the mayor of Goshen said.

It's suspected the criminals are a group of kids, but until they're caught, residents are encouraged to protect their belongings.

“If you have something left in your car that's visible, try to hide it as best as possible. Be diligent about securing things in and around your home,” the mayor of Goshen said.
