Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - School officials say they're seeing more violence at school and problems with cell phones.

Jefferson County Public Schools are trying to change the behavior.

In the first two months of school, 44 students were suspended for sexting, which is sending nude pictures over phones.

From sexting to fighting, school suspensions in Jefferson County are up.

Suspensions are up 16.8% in elementary schools in one school there have been ten suspensions.

That’s up 14.4% in middle schools and 14% in the high schools.

22 high schools have police who have made 400 arrests; the majority for fighting.

But JCPS is trying to keep kids in the classroom by changing their behavior.

In the first two months of school, there were 576 suspensions for fighting; 77 for striking a teacher or school employee.

Not one parent can justify why any student should have a cell phone in school. They didn't have them when they were in school and survived so why can't their kids. There was less violence in schools when teachers and principles could still punish with a good 3 lick paddling. They survived that too. Seems parents don't want someone else disciplining their kids but they are too irresponsible or lazy to do it themselves. Not one parent can justify why they allow their kids to act the way they do, or talk back to adults (including the parents themselves) or authority figures. Not one parent can justify why they allow their kids to play video or computer games that are nothing but violence. Not one parent can justify allowing any child under 16 years old to have a social networking page. All the kids do it is not an excuse.

PureCountry and Malibu, I can see both of your points very clearly, my son was a victim of one of these attack which was brutal & caught in very clear, full color on a high quality camera--of course the buses' camera wasnt even turned on and ironicly we would have had no video proving my son never threw a punch if the punks hadn't posted that video on youtube , we ripped it for youtube beore they could remove it so we have AMAZING evidence for the civil suit to make them pay the dr bills...which is good because even tho the rotten little hoodlum PLED GUILTY, the courts wouldnt make them pay the $3000 in medical bills unless I had paid them out of pocket....the prococutor told me ( before he pled guilty) that if i did have the money to pay out of pocket she still wouldnt advise it because the judge may not find in our favor She said file a civil suit. which we will. They need to be banned or at least have zero tolerance: Attack someone or record it on a cell= you get EXPELLED!!

Malibu, the teachers should be provided with school cells for emergencies such as medical or Columbine but students these days are not responsible enough to have them. A small handful may be but the rest create the problem.

Kids that young don't need cell phones. I'm sorry but if there are things in their life that are so important that they need cell phones, they may also need to be in therapy. I grew up without a cell phone in the 70's and 80's along with EVERYBODY else. Again. Parents where are you? What am I saying the parents are the ones showing these bullies how to act. Still not sure how mankind has made it this far.
