(WHAS11) -- An off-duty Louisville firefighter is being called a hero after he saved an elderly man and his four-year-old grandson from a burning home.
Marc Myres was driving home from the store when he noticed smoke. He turned into Clifton Court and saw flames coming out of a home. Myres dialed 911 and rushed to the home where he discovered two people inside.
David Jones, 77, had been watching his four-year-old grandson when the fire started. Jones tried to put the fire out, but was unable to.
“I tried to put it out and he would bring me cups of water. The little four-year-old would bring me cups of water,” Jones said.
Myres was able to grab the four-year-old and help usher Jones out while firefighters arrived on scene.
The four-year-old was taken to Kosair where he was treated for smoke inhalation and released.
The fire was believed to have started in a back bedroom.
