Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Facebook researchers are taking a look at technology that can identify people in pictures almost as precisely as humans can.

Facial recognition software already lets users suggest tags on photos, but this new technology, called "DeepFace," is even more accurate. This program can even identify faces from a side view.

Researchers say it recognizes the correct face about 97 percent of the time. A spokeswoman for Facebook says it's not yet known how or even if the social networking site will use "DeepFace," which is currently in the research phase.
