(WHAS 11)--A German shepherd who's saved hundreds of lives gets a hero's welcome in California.

Lucca is an 8-year-old military dog trained to sniff out explosives.

She and her handler, Marine Corps sergeant Chris Willingham are touring the country to promote the new Military Working Dog Teams national monument.

Lucca lost her left leg after finding a booby trap device that went off.

Before losing her leg, Lucca led over 400 patrols that resulted in zero injuries.

The national monument will have a permanent home in San Antonio, Texas, which is also where military dogs are bred and trained.
