Louisville, Ky. (News Release) -- Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory scored a record number of visitors in 2012, announcing Tuesday that annual attendance was at an all-time high with 244,049 visitors. This is the third consecutive year that Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory has set a record for attendance and the first time in museum history that it has eclipsed the 240,000 visitors mark. The museum welcomed 238,912 visitors in 2011, beating its previous total of 234,771 in 2010.
"We are so appreciative of the ongoing enthusiasm for Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory," said Executive Director Anne Jewell. "We don't take this for granted and are excited to be part of Louisville's growing prominence on the national tourism scene."
While the 244,049 guests is a new mark, the museum also set monthly attendance records in seven months during 2012, achieving record totals in February, March, May, June, August, September and November.
The museum offered two popular exhibits in last year. In the spring, Ballparks: From Classic Cathedrals to Concrete Donuts, mixed stunning ballpark photography with items from the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
In the summer and fall, the museum unveiled an original exhibit entitled Baseball Hotties: Studs We Love™, that celebrated the boys of summer who make fans swoon. The exhibit was created and designed by Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and featured the game's steamiest superstars from the 1800s to today.
The museum also credits its public outreach throughout the region as a contributing factor to the attendance. Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory staffed a traveling weekend exhibit at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, and continues to focus on Cincinnati as a key market.
The museum attracts thousands of out-of-town visitors to Louisville and generates vital tourism for the community each year.
Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory already has an exciting lineup slated for 2013, with the opening of its new LEGO-themed exhibit Big Leagues, Little Bricks scheduled to open March 2nd and run through September 2nd. The exhibit features amazing sculptures, portraits, and stadium replicas all built with LEGO® bricks and is included in the general admission price for the museum.
