LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Lori Dougherty knows the terror of being caught in a limo that’s on fire. She and friends were on their way to a Taylor Swift concert with their daughters two years ago when the car went up in flames.
She and the other girls were shockingly reminded of their incident when a limo in California caught fire killing five women.
“That could have been us as easily as it was them,” Dougherty said.
There are state and federal guidelines for limo services, but police and industry professionals admit they’re not always well enforced. Dougherty wants to see change.
“Never in a million years have I been in a limo and someone says ‘If there’s an emergency this is what you need to do and here’s where you need to go,’” Dougherty said.
She believes her limo fire was electrical. To find out if the limo company you’re using is following the rules the Kentucky Limo Association has a list of authorized retailers.
