LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Louisville doctors are calling the first surgery to reconstruct the face of a woman named Lessya a success.
She was disfigured following a misdiagnosis of terminal cancer in her native Ukraine.
Radiation treatments she received caused permanent damage and led to her becoming an outcast.
UofL doctors have taken on the case for free after Lessy's cousin found her and brought her to Louisville.
Her big reconstructive surgery will be in January.
