(WHAS11) - Roy and Mary Pickett monitor radio frequencies, searching for any communication coming out of Haiti.

"If I needed help I would hope that someone would help me," said Roy Pickett.

The couple said their goal is to try and relay messages from people in Haiti to loved ones back home in the United States.

"I know people are in pain,” said Mary Pickett. “People are suffering and then there's people here who have relatives there and they are suffering because they don't know if their loved ones are dead or alive."

And after days of monitoring, Mary made contact Thursday afternoon with a person also using a Ham radio in Haiti.

She said she's alerted authorities that a man is there and needs help.
