LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Light Up Louisville is getting a makeover and a new home! The attraction has been moved from Jefferson Square to 4th Street Live and it’s not just for one night, it will be 40 nights of lights, music, and holiday fun.
Metro Special Events Director Joseph MacDonald said they’ve been testing everything out for the big light up on Friday night.
"We've got thousands of lights deployed along 4th street corridor here from the Galt House to 4th street live, almost $3 million worth of lighting and musical equipment," MacDonald said.
There’s also an ice skating rink right in the middle of 4th Street Live! Wednesday night, the UofL hockey team tested the synthetic ice. The rink will open up at noon on Friday, Nov. 23.
Light Up Louisville fun will be happening on 4th Street between Main and Liberty. All the fun kicks off at 2 p.m. with the Run, Run Rudolph 5K. The Winter Wonderland Parade is at 6. The main event is at 9 p.m. That’s when Santa and Mayor Greg Fischer will flip the switch to light up Louisville.
