Police arrest teen for allegedly assaulting Medal of Honor recipient

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky State Police have arrested a teenager and charged him with assaulting Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer.

Police say Kanissa Thompson, 18, assaulted Meyer near the campus of  Lindsey Wilson College on Sunday.

Meyer needed several staples to close a gash in his head but has been released from the hospital. Meyer was in the area for a party with his brother.
Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer is recovering after being assaulted at a Kentucky college.

A Lexington television station is reporting that Meyer was assaulted at a venue outside Columbia, Ky.  Sunday while at a party with his brother.

Meyer is the first living Marine in decades to receive the Medal of Honor.
