LARUE CO., Ky. (News Release) -- A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Larue County Friday evening.
On Friday, December 7 at approximately 9:24 p.m., Larue County Dispatch received a call of a reckless driver. Larue County Deputy James E. Williamson, 24, responded and located the vehicle in question. Deputy Williamson observed the vehicle driving recklessly and he attempted to initiate a traffic stop by engaging his emergency equipment.
Thomas E. Ferguson, 38, of Magnolia, Ky. ignored Deputy Williamson's signals to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued on KY 1192 near the 5 mile post when Ferguson's vehicle spun out and came to rest facing the Deputy.
As Deputy Williamson approached the vehicle, Ferguson accelerated towards him. Deputy Williamson fired shots into the vehicle striking Ferguson in the head. The vehicle then exited the roadway and into a ditch.
Larue County EMS transported Ferguson to Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was later transported to the University of Louisville Hospital. Early Saturday morning, Ferguson was pronounced dead and an autopsy was performed.
Larue County Sheriff's Office requested that KSP investigate the shooting.
Deputy Williamson was not injured in the incident.
Alcohol was located in the suspect's vehicle and does appear to be a factor in the suspect's reckless driving.
This investigation is ongoing.
