LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Jefferson County Public Schools decided to close Friday and spokesperson Ben Jackey said it was a difficult decision.
Jackey said the district has been in continuous contact with the National Weather Service and they are calling for rapidly deteriorating conditions as snow moves into Kentuckiana Friday afternoon.
The decision to close was based on that information and the timing of the wintry weather that may travel conditions as students are transported home.
He said they decided against an early dismissal because it disrupts the school day.
Jackey also said the safety of students is paramount and is always the district's first and primary concern.
