(WHAS11) -- Sunday was a big night for Louisville native Jennifer Lawrence after she took home an Oscar for her role in the movie Silver Linings Playbook.

It was also an unforgettable moment for one of her former teachers at Kammerer Middle School.

Nine years ago, Amanda Cornish started as the band director at the middle school, Lawrence sat right in the front row of her class.

"That's still the same Jennifer that was here in eighth grade," Cornish said after watching Lawrence's Oscar acceptance speech.  Cornish describes Jennifer as a performer who is now inspiring other students through her achievements.

"I get a lot more oboe players now," Cornish said.
